Message from the Minister of Labour
The Ministry of Labour of the Republic of Korea strongly supports XVIII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work which is jointly organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). The World Congress will be held from June 29 to July 2, 2008 in Seoul, Korea.
The World Congress on Safety and Health at Work has been organized every three year by the ILO, the ISSA and a national organizer and has significantly contributed to the prevention of workplace accidents and diseases through the exchange of new technologies and information.
The World Congress has also led to the promotion of networking and the development of cooperative projects between former Congress participants. Government officials, labour-management organizations, safety and health research institutes, chief executives of multinational companies, senior officials of employers' organizations, trade union leaders, high-level social security representatives, scholars and many other experts are expected to participate in XVIII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work in 2008. Under the principal theme of "Safety and Health at Work: A Societal Responsibility." four important topics have been identified:
- Strategies and Programmes of Safety and Health for the Future
- Impact of Changing Working Conditions on Workers' Protection
- New Challenges and Opportunities in Occupational Safety and Health
- Safety and Health Management Systems
The Ministry of Labour expects that this World Congress will be successful through the active participation of all those involved in safety and health at work. Furthermore, the Ministry believes that this World Congress will afford an opportunity to introduce our advanced safety and health management system through a variety of programmes as well as to enhance the status of Korea as a major player in occupational safety and health at work through strengthening cooperation with international agencies and organizations.
The Ministry would like to strongly encourage professionals working in the area of safety and health around the world to participate in this World Congress in Seoul.
